Frequent bite by dog between HIV & non HIV persons
May 15, 2010

Hello, i read you response about another instance where a dog bit an infected person and then a non infected person. However, I am pretty sure the time gap between our bites was less. My main question is, how long before if I am infected will it show up? It's been almost 7 weeks now. I took a rapid saliva test today and it said negative. I've heard blood can detect it as soon as a month. I am going to have a blood test ran too. Do you think it will show up?

Thank you!

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hi,

HIV is not transmitted via dog bites, even if the dog is Cujo and he bites multiple folks one right after the other. Neither worry nor HIV testing is warranted. However, dog obedience classes certainly are!
