I was dating a girl who was HIV positive. When I brought up the subject of using condoms she said she doesn't like them. I then asked her what she used. She said nothing. I know she takes Reyataz and Norvir so I was wondering if they lower the risk of transmitting HIV to the point that she isn't concerned about practicing safe sex?
Response from Dr. Frascino
That your gal pal doesn't practice safer sex explains her HIV-positive status. Use of effective combination antiretroviral therapy that reduces the HIV plasma viral load to undetectable levels does significantly decrease HIV-transmission risk; however, it doesn't completely eliminate the risk! Anyone foolish enough to have unsafe sex with your gal-pal is playing sexual Russian Roulette! Her behavior is unconscionable in my opinion.
