| 1 Positive then negatives Feb 8, 2010 Dear Doctor I have a question but I don't know this question might be pointless but I really want to know answer of that because I'm really scared, I had HIV rapid test and came positive 3months ago 7th of Oct 2009 then I had ELISA Test in the same day then came Negative then I had another rapid test 2 days later and Negative then I had ELISA HIV test in another 5 weeks later and came Negative I had PCR & W.B 6 weeks later which came Negative after the 1st test which came positive ( 07th of Oct 09) and I did another Elisa test 14 weeks ago which came negative do you think the conformity tests are conclusive and I dont have HIV? because I'm afraid as may be the virus is in my blood and will appear again in the future and I will be positive again in the future, Sir, do you ever face a case like this from you long experience . I'm very careful with my behavior and If I stay protected like this will I ever be positive again and are those tests confirming that I don't have the virus, moreover the only medicine which I take is finastride 1mg ( propecia) and mexodile spray 5% for hair loss so do think those medication have caused a change in the test results or might make the window period longer? Plus I have Herpes II IgG which is Positive 2.0? Please advise Thanks in advanced |

Response from Dr. Frascino
Hello, Your rapid test on October 7, 2009 was a false-positive test as confirmed by your subsequent multiple negative ELISA, rapid, Western Blot and PCR tests. You are definitively and conclusively HIV negative. False-positive rapid tests are not uncommon. You can read about them in the archives of this forum. Neither Propecia nor minoxidil will affect eh HIV seroconversion window. Likewise, your positive IgG for herpes type 2 (indicating past infection) will have no effect on HIV-test results. Your fears are unwarranted. You never had HIV in your blood; rather, you had a false-positive HIV-antibody test. Dr. Bob | ||||||||||
