| ONE QUICK QUESTION! **H1N1 Vaccine and False Positives?** Feb 8, 2010 Hi Dr. Bob, I had an H1N1 vaccination in mid December. Could this cause a false positive on an HIV antibody test done in mid February? I'm begging for an answer, I'm going in soon and would like to know my chances of a false positive. Thank you for your time, Scared Spaniard |

Response from Dr. Frascino
Hello Scared Spaniard, Since the H1N1 vaccine is new this year, there have been no clinical studies to examine the exact relationship between H1N1 vaccination and false-positive HIV-antibody tests. Certainly it's theoretically possible, based on other similar vaccines. However, it would be extremely unlikely, in my opinion, that your mid-December H1N1 vaccine would cause a false-positive HIV-antibody test in mid-February. Please note false-positive HIV test results from any cause would be very quickly identified by routine follow-up and confirmatory testing. Don't be frightened. Diagnosing true HIV disease is not difficult! Dr. Bob | ||||||||||
