Please, Help me, I need orientation.
Feb 8, 2010

I had HIV test 4 weeks ago. Elisa came back low positive and western blot negative for HIV 1. When I received the results I went to an HIV clinic and had a oraquick rapid test, that came back negative. 20 days later I went to the lab where I had the first results, They repeat the test and again came back elisa low positive and western blot negative for HIV 1. Someone told me that I need to check viral load because it could be recent infection. HIV 1 rna pcr came non detectable and HIV dna pcr non detectable. They keep telling me that I need to check HIV 2 western blot. Please I need your help.

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hello,

You don't need "orientation," you need accurate information!!!

Who is this "they" that keeps giving you such bad advice? You are HIV negative. Period! HIV is not your problem. No way. No how. No additional HIV tests are warranted. A positive ELISA and negative confirmatory Western Blot is considered a negative HIV-screening test! So you've had nothing but negative screening test results! Add to that the unnecessary, but corroborative, undetectable quantitative HIV PCR RNA and undetectable qualitative HIV PCR DNA, and you just can't get any more negative than that! Stop testing and tell "they" that they are suffering from a severe case of craino-rectal inversion". (That means "they" have their heads up their butts!)

Yell WOO-HOO and stop worrying, OK?

Dr. Bob
