HIV, flatulence, and hunger
Dec 21, 2009
Hi Dr. Bob,
Does HIV infection cause excessive flatulence?
Also, does HIV infection increase one's hunger (i.e. being hungry frequently throughout the day, even 1/2 hour after eating a meal)?
Response from Dr. Frascino
Does HIV cause excessive flatulence? No, but eating refried beans at Ticky-Tacky-Taco will, if that's what you're looking for! (Kidding aside, some antiretroviral medications can be associated with formidable farts.)
Does HIV increase one's appetite? No, in fact, generally speaking, HIVers have difficulty maintaining their weight!
Hope that helps Gus. And oh, could you please crack the window a bit? Whew! (Gus, how about asking Santa for some Gas-Ex?)
