Can I get HIV/AIDS from this situation
Dec 10, 2009

Dear Dr. Frascino, A few days ago I stopped to get a hot dog from a street vendor. I added a combination of condiments, and after eating about three quarters of the hot dog, I found some green stuff. Not thinking, I finished the food. If that was mucous from someone HIV positive, can I get HIV? Thanks

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hello,

You found "green stuff" on a hotdog from a street vendor after you had eaten three quarters of the dog and you worried it was "mucous" from someone HIV positive," but you ate the rest anyway??? Damn, you must have been really, really hungry. Hey, did the green "snot" in questions happen to taste anything like onions or relish??? I'm just asking!

Dude, your HIV risk is nonexistent; however, eating street vendors' hotdogs could potentially pose other health hazards! Next time, how about a heart-smart and oh so tasty fruit smoothie from Jamba Juice???

Dr. Bob
