Response from Dr. Frascino
Hi, Insertive oral sex carries only a very minimal risk for HIV acquisition. The CDC estimates the statistical risk per-act for acquiring HIV from unprotected insertive oral sex with a partner confirmed to be HIV infected is 0.5 per 10,000 exposures. Your friend's statistical estimate would be even less, as we don't know the HIV status of his gal-pal. PEP would not be recommended for this very low potential HIV risk. If he remains worried, a single HIV-antibody test at the three-month mark is all that would be recommended. Dr. Bob | |||||||||
