HIV 1 DNA, Qualitative/PCR testing results
Nov 9, 2009
hi DR.Robert i'm 28yo and I have 3 questions about HIV1 DNA Qulaitative/PCR test results 1)is this test conclusive after 30 days of exposure to HIV risk? (my results were negative" 2)is this test the same as the HIV p24 antigen test?
thanks & regards.
Response from Dr. Frascino
1. The qualitative HIV DNA PCR test is not recommended for routine HIV screening. Consequently, I can't advise you as to whether an undetectable 30 day test is conclusive or not. All negative or undetectable tests are encouraging but the recommended diagnostic test for HIV screening is an HIV-antibody test at the three-month mark.
2. No. These are completely different tests.
3. There was no question #3!
