| Hives every day--- symptom of initial infection? Nov 8, 2009 Hi, I had an occupational exposure with hiv-unknown blood in early september, and finished a 28-day course of PEP on the 30th. about a week and a half after that, i started getting hives. at first it was one or two at a time that i thought were mosquito bites, but over a few days, it turned into large, intensely itchy hives all over my back, torso, neck and scalp. i am not due for follow-up HIV testing until mid-december and it's not a discernable allergic reaction to anything... are hives breakouts associated with initial hiv infection? thank you! |

Response from Dr. Frascino
Hello, Generally speaking, hives or urticarial eruptions are not all that common in HIV acute retroviral syndrome (ARS). I'd recommend seeing an allergist or dermatologist for further evaluation. Good luck. Dr. Bob | |||||||||
