why does it seem like nobody knows about hiv
Aug 25, 2009

i had unprotected anal sex with a prostitute i was the inserter for about 10 seconds then i pulled out when can i get an accurate pcr test?

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hi,

Considering you had "unprotected anal sex with a prostitute," I could ask you the same question you posed to me: "Why does it seem like nobody knows about HIV"?!?!?!

Regarding quantitative HIV plasma RNA PCR tests, they are not recommended for routine HIV screening, due to the rate of false positives, other technical considerations and cost. The best and most reliable test for routine HIV screening remains the HIV-antibody test (ELISA, EIA, rapid test). This should be done three months or longer from the date of exposure. HIV-antibody tests taken prior to the three-month mark are not considered to be conclusive.
