computed tomography, x-rays, antibiotics

Aug 10, 2009

Hello Dr. Bob,

please answer to my question. I'm really worried. I'm in my window period (after my possible exposure), and I want to know this: will a computed tomography on head (after an injury) about 15 minutes; a x-rays on head about 2 minutes; antibiotics for about 12 days, and anti-inflamation drugs (about 10 days), will afect the window period or hiv test? thanks, greetings from France

Response from Dr. Frascino

Bonjour a l'hexagone!

A CAT scan and/or antibiotics would not affect the results of HIV-antibody screening tests. "Anti-inflammation drugs" might if the drugs were potent corticosteroids.

A bientot,

Dr. Bob
