| valtrex and tenofovir in normal kidney fx. Jun 7, 2009 hey dr. bob. quick question: im newly hiv + with herpes type I. my regiment consists of isentress and truvada. no outbreaks from herpes so far, but if valtrex or acyclovir becomes necessary, will i have to stop taking the tenofovir component in my regiment? from my last labs, my kidney fx was normal. im just worried that my herpes may complicate my hiv tx. i went through the forums and i dont think this question has been asked yet. thanks so much for the work you do! |

Response from Dr. Frascino
Hi, With normal kidney function there is no reason to discontinue tenofovir while taking Valtrex or acyclovir for an outbreak (or even chronic suppressive therapy). Be well. Dr. Bob | |||||||||
