| ORAL SEX, IS IT A RISK OR NOT May 19, 2009 Hey Doc, What's the real (as in non-bullshit) story about oral sex? Is it a risk or not. Yes or no? I've seen lots of guys having unprotected oral sex in sex clubs in San Francisco. Thanks Cockhound |

Response from Dr. Frascino
Hi Cockhound, The risk of HIV transmission through oral sex has been a subject of hot debate since the early years of the HIV/AIDS epidemic. The reason this issue is so difficult to resolve definitively based on epidemiological studies is that most horned-up hot-to-trot hotties do not limit themselves to a single sexual practice, except perhaps at San Francisco's Blow Buddies sex club. (And doing clinical studies there would be a bit of a challenge!) Basically what we can say with confidence is that the HIV-transmission/acquisition risk associated with orogenital sex (both blow jobs and cunnilingus) is very low, at best. Dr. Bob | |||||||||
