Oraquick Rapid Test Year After Incident-Can I trust the negative?

Apr 12, 2009

Hi Dr. Bob!

I took an Oraquick rapid test, the one where you swab your gums, one year after i was raped vaginally. There was no ejaculation, but I nevertheless went through the rape kit process as well as counseling. A year after the incident, I took an Oraquick Rapid Response test and it came back negative.

However, can I trust this? I took an HIV Blood test right after i was raped, but it was too early.

Please help as I just need to know if I can trust this negative or is the Oraquick Rapid Test just not good enough?

Response from Dr. Frascino

Your negative OraQuick rapid test one year after a possible exposure is definitive and conclusive. HIV is not your problem. No way. No how. No further tests are warranted.
