| Dr. Bob, please answer my concern. Mar 26, 2009 Dr. Bob, My girl friend got tested for HIV1/2 antibody test two weeks back. Last year in November, she has got a lasik surgery done to her eyes to get rid of her contact lenses. She is worried that if the lasik procedure might have caused any immunesuppression and her antibody tests failed? Does she need a PCR? Please answer our concern. Donation is obviously promised for your great work. |

Response from Dr. Frascino
Hi, Lasik eye surgery, just like having your hemorrhoids fixed or getting a bikini wax, has absolutely no effect on HIV tests. No additional tests are recommended; certainly not a PCR! All that's really warranted is for your girlfriend to stop worrying and yell WOO-HOO! Dr. Bob | |||||||||
