| Please Dr. Bob, 2nd Time Asking Please Mar 14, 2009 Please Dr. Bob, this is my second time asking and I searched the archives. Where else can we go to ask about HIV testing. My question is I had an HIV EIA ab test awhile back and now this same lab uses the IMCA ab test only. Is this test superior or are they equal at detecting antibodies? And should I be retested with the IMCA ab test? I have been at no further risks. I would love to send a donation, honestly. Marc P. |

Response from Dr. Frascino
Hello Marc, There are a variety of HIV antibody testing techniques currently available that are extremely accurate and have comparable sensitivity, specificity and reliability. I'm not sure what IMCA stands for. Perhaps a type of HIV chemiluminescent immunoassay? Check with the lab just to be sure their testing assays are FDA approved. I would assume they are. Thanks for your donation to the Robert James Frascino AIDS Foundation (www.concertedeffort.org). Good luck on your test! Dr. Bob | |||||||||
