my husband thinks he has aids
Feb 8, 2009

please help me my husband thinks he has aids or syillis he has had 6 tests at different gum clinics and have come back clear. he had an affair about 4 and a half years ago and things are so bad he tells me he doest feel right SOMETHING IS WRONG HE HAS PAINS ALL OVER HIS BODY.and we agrue all the time i don"t no WHAT TO DO!

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hello,

If your husband cannot accept overwhelming and irrefutable evidence that he does not have HIV and/or syphilis, he has a psychiatric problem. His fears are irrational and totally unwarranted. If he has been thoroughly evaluated by a physician and a physical cause cannot be found for his total body pain, a psychosomatic cause should be considered. Psychosomatic illness causes very real symptoms. I would strongly suggest your husband be evaluated by a psychiatrist. It seems clear his problem is not infectious, but rather psychological.

Good luck to you both.

Dr. Bob
