Smelling semen in a public restroom Nov 14, 2008 Hi Doctor, You do great work.I couldn't find another question like this. Call me paranoid but I would love a medical explanation to why HIV cannot be transmitted by smelling semen. In context, I was in a public urinal when I noticed semen in the bowl so I moved to another one, I was certain as I could smell it.Say it was HIV+, for me to smell it, particles must be dissolving in the mucous memebrane of my nose so how can that not be a risk ? Much appreciate your take on this. |

 Hi, Dude, be reasonable. If HIV were transmissible via the airborne route, it would have wiped out the planet long ago. HIV is not airborne. It cannot fly, jump or cha-cha-cha into your proboscis, no matter what you are sniffing, OK? A medical/scientific explanation is not needed when pure common sense will do, OK? Dr. Bob | ||||||||
