Rheumatoid Arthritis and Hiv Testing
Apr 23, 2008

Hi Dr. Bob,

I have first searched the archives and honestly did not find an answer to this question. I have rheumatoid arthritis. Because this is considered an autoimmune disease, will it interfere with my Hiv antibody test results? Will it give me a false negative or false positive? Can I consider my one antibody test well after the three month mark to be accurate and go with it? Thanks Dr. Bob,

J.S.

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hi J.S.,

Rheumatoid arthritis would not affect the validity of HIV-antibody tests. Stop worrying and start WOO-HOOing.

Dr. Bob
