IS IT TIME TO WOO-HOO!!! IS IT TIME TO WOO-HOO!!! IS IT TIME TO WOO-HOO!!!
Feb 26, 2008

Doc!!! CAN I WOO-HOO!!!!!!

here's the rundown. Unprotected sex twice 9-10 years ago (97-98ish). Met girlfriend later that year. Never any protected sex (dumb I know!!!) Married her in 2003. Still unprotected sex. Son was born in 2005, during prenatals and delivery repeated negative tests for her and baby. Single extra-marital episode with ex-girlfriend early 2007. Sex was protected and comdom used properly (no breakage no slippage), however I shave my privates (cause for concern??) Continued to have sex with wife as normal (major regret, but no fear of HIV at time). Never any symptoms (but symptoms are unreliable). Wife became pregnant Oct 2007. Went to first prenatal visit Jan 2008, and did blood draws for screening). (HIV Worry began to set in). Her labs came back negative for all, so slight woo-hoo. (But began reading on transmission probabilities and window periods, and started to fear that maybe it didn't transmit during conception or before, but was transferred after conception which would affect (october-to-january 3 month window if I was infected). In comes anxiety and panic. Finally after many sleepless nights, I get test via Oraquick Advance HIV-1/2 oral swab on Feb 13. Guess what---test result NEGATIVE. WOO-HOO'd hard and loud!! By weekend panic had came back. Did I screw it up even though I did as the test prescribed? Did the tester screw up the reading even though I saw the actual test strip myself?? Next week, Feb 20, at another clinic (this clinic more "medicinal" by my standards) had another test done. This time via whole blood fingerprick with uni-gold recombigen HIV (cause I had convinced myself that the oralswab was not as accurate as blood oraquick sensitivty=99.3%, specifity=99.6-7% versus uni-gold recombigen sensitivity=100%, specificity=99.7-8%. Guess what.....test results: NEGATIVE AGAIN!!!!!!! This is 9-10 months after the protected episode with shaving, and 9-10 years after the 2 unprotected incidents with ex girlfriends.

DOC CAN YOU TELL ME IF I CAN WOO-HOO!!!!! CAN I MOVE ON!!!!! CAN I BE SURE THAT I AM NEGATIVE AFTER THESE 2 TEST 9-10 MONTHS/9-10 YEARS. CAN I REALLY WOO-HOO WITH NO FEAR!!!!!!!!!!I think ther may be a slight-case of worried-wellitis for me)

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hello,

A ". . . 'slight' case of worried-wellitis"???? I'd hate to see what you'd be like with a severe case!

Dude I have one (albeit hyphenated) word for you: WOO-HOO!

Dr. Bob
