Tear gas and Elisa test?
Oct 19, 2007
can my exposure to tear gas mess up an HIV test? I took tests at days 28, 80, and 96. All were negative. Test at day 28 and 80 were too soon. A few days before the test at day 96 I had a training exercise at work that involved use of tear gas... could this have made the test at 96 days any less accurate?
All tests were negative. Should I retest? All tests were home access elisa tests.
Response from Dr. Frascino
I've been asked about many possible substances that might interfere with HIV test results, but I must admit you're the first to ask about tear-gas!
Relax, Max. You can attend all the protest rallies you want and get gassed to the max without it affecting your HIV test results. Your Home Access test results are definitive. Retesting is not warranted.
