Lymphnodes and primary!
Oct 15, 2007

Hello!

Must start with saying you write wonderfully and charismatic, have found myself laughing out loud reading some of your witty answers .. :)

well here is my question.

I had brief unprotected oral sex with a man of unknown hiv status (I am gay) maybe 15 seconds and no cum. 5 days later i got sick 40 degrees celsius (I am from Norway, we have celsius here, have noo idea what it is in farenheith.. but its high) and dry cough. this lasted for 8 days. then seven days after the fever dissapeared I got swollen lymphnodes on both sides of my neck maybe 15-20 of them , peasized. they are still around 2 months later. and for two months I have also had a swollen salivary gland. Can this be hiv.. am a little scared. can a primary infection come after only 5 days? and how does lymphnodes usually feel in this stage..? well thanks for answering and live long and prosper.. :)

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hello Norwegian Worrier,

Fifteen seconds of unprotected oral sex with a guy of unknown HIV status is not considered to be a significant risk for HIV transmission. HIV Acute Retroviral Syndrome (ARS) symptoms generally appear two to four weeks after primary infection. Consequently your symptoms at five days would indeed be considered early. The lymphadenopathy (swollen glands) associated with HIV disease are generalized and not painful. I very strongly doubt you contracted HIV. Due to your concern, I would recommend you get a single rapid HIV test. It's the most effective and efficient way for you to put your residual HIV worries permanently to rest.

"Live long and prosper?" Are old Star Trek reruns still being shown in Norway? Here everyone is now into Battlestar Galactica. Lee Adama is far sexier than Mr. Spock. Check him out!
