| Trisivir Sep 15, 2007 Dear Dr.: Im taking Trisivir and Nevirapine since the year 2000 2x daily. Now CD4 are 750 since inicial 250 and viral HIV1 load always indetectable since inicial 4500! But lipoatrophy come noticed since 2002 as a veiny and thin look on my legs and lean butt. Now Im noticing it on my face (panic!)so I stoped medication for my own... Should I change it next time an for what? Is it the AZT on Trisivir(Epivir+AZT+Abacavir)? Thanks a lot for your time (and work). António Baptista, 46 y old, Portugal. |

Response from Dr. Frascino
Hello Antonio, Stopping your medications is not a good idea! I urge you to see your HIV specialist ASAP so that a new regimen can be started. Regarding lipoatrophy, there is a link between thymidine analogue drugs (D4T and AZT) and abnormal fat loss in the extremities, buttocks and face. A switch off AZT (and D4T)-containing drugs could slow down or stop further loss. I would suggest you review the information about lipoatrophy (including both its causes and potential treatments) that can be easily accessed on The Body's homepage under the Quick Links heading. Click on the Lipoatrophy Resource Center chapter. Good luck. Dr. Bob | |||
