| False positive HIV2 Jun 13, 2007 Recently had physical which included HIV test. "Main" labs came back non-reactive. My doc called today to say he got more labs back that showed a small reaction to HIV2. Since the "main" test came back negative he is calling this a fale-positive. He does however want to retest down the line (a year or so). Asked about drug use which there is none ever. Told me not to worry, but I am. I'm freaking out and can't find anything to explain more. Can you help? |

Response from Dr. Frascino
Hello, A "small reaction to HIV 2"???? I have no idea what that even means. Although I agree this is most likely some type of laboratory error or false-positive, his advice to retest in "a year or so" is untenable! This needs to be sorted out now. If he is unwilling or unable to do so, you should demand to see an HIV specialist who will be able to give you a definitive answer regarding your status now, not next year. Good luck.
