| Help, very concerned Apr 10, 2001 Hello doctor, I am a gay man. I had an hiv positive man perform oral sex on me for about a minute, maybe less. We also kissed lots. He only told me he was hiv positive after he had performed this one minute max oral sex on me. I told him I was not interested in having sex with him. He informed me, he did not have any sores. The next morning 7 to 8 hours later, I found a sore on the tip of my penis. The day after that I saw a doctor who told me that this sore did not look like an open sore. Is this a likely way to contract hiv. Very worried |

Response from Mr. Kull
Your sexual encounter with the HIV positive man describes a very low-risk event. It is highly unlikely that someone would get infected through receiving oral sex since saliva probably does not transmit HIV. Receiving oral sex might constitute a risk only if the person performing oral sex had blood in his/her mouth. Hopefully your doctor confirmed for you that it was unlikely that you were infected in this incident. RMK | |||
