| Former ww/pre-med student needs help Mar 18, 2007 Hi Dr Bob, I was interested in specifically becoming an HIV specialist. How does one go about doing that in particular and are there any schools (preferably California, but not necessarily) that have special programs for that? |

Response from Dr. Frascino
Hi, We have yet to develop a specific HIV/AIDS subspecialty postdoctoral training program or American Board of HIV/AIDS Medicine. Consequently, you'll need to get your postdoctoral certification in internal medicine and then select either an infectious diseases or clinical immunology postdoctoral fellowship program. Choose a fellowship program that has a strong HIV/AIDS program (both inpatient and outpatient). These can be found in most major cities where the epidemic is most prevalent (New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, etc.). Good luck. Hurry up and finish your training. We desperately need more highly qualified compassionate HIV/AIDS specialists! Dr. Bob | |||||||||
