50 per 10000. Are you sure?
Feb 7, 2007
I have some confusion about the risk reguarding unprotected receptive anal intercourse. How it could be 50 per 10000 exposures? I mean if somebody ejaculates inside your butt I guess that the risk must be much higher than 0.5% considering that a full shot of infected sperm should contain a lot of virus. Wouldn't it be more accurate to say an 80% probability of infection in that case?
Response from Dr. Frascino
Nope! Please note the statistics I quoted is an estimate for all unprotected receptive anal sex. That would include folks with high viral loads as well as folks with undetectable viral loads, folks who only dipped their wick for a plunge or two and folks who pounded away for hours, folks with a wimpy viral strain and folks with highly aggressive viral strains, etc. Thankfully your 80% probability statistic is not at all supported by over 25 years of epidemiological research on HIV transmission. That said, there is no doubt that going commando between the sheets is risky business!
Stay safe and you'll stay well.
