|unprotected anal sex
Jan 19, 2007
Hi there, just over a week ago I met someone who I didn't know before and I went to bed with them. We ended up having anal sex, I was the active partner. Stupidly I was inside him without a condom using only saliva. This went on for a few minutes but when we were both close I stopped. I didn't climax while inside him. I am in perfectly good health thankfully and havent suffered any "signs" of anything so far but I feel really stupid for getting so carried away and worse, having to wonder whether I could be HIV positive after being inside him for a few minutes? I know it's a difficult question but what do you think are my chances of getting the virus? Many thanks, Chris

The estimated per-act risk for acquiring HIV from unprotected insertive anal sex with a partner confirmed to be HIV positive is 6.5 per 10,000 exposures. Your estimated risk would be lower, as we do not know the status of your partner. I would recommend getting an HIV test at the three-month mark. Also, I'd recommend stocking up on latex condoms and water-based lube to help prevent future episodes of "no glove love."
