Once again, the archives had the answer all along! Be well. Stay well. Dr. Bob nitrile gloves as good as latex? Feb 11, 2006 hi dr. bob:) i am a nursing student in the great white north who was wondering... i had an open cut on my hand and was using nitrile gloves to treat a bleeding patient (patient has a latex allergy). is nitrile as effective at preventing the transmission of HIV/HBV/HCV as latex? Response from Dr. Frascino Hi, Yes, latex, nitrile, polyvinylchloride and polyethylene and polyurethane products would all be effective barriers in preventing transmission of bloodborne pathogens (HIV and hepatitis).
