nitrile gloves as good as latex?
Feb 11, 2006
hi dr. bob:)
i am a nursing student in the great white north who was wondering... i had an open cut on my hand and was using nitrile gloves to treat a bleeding patient (patient has a latex allergy). is nitrile as effective at preventing the transmission of HIV/HBV/HCV as latex?
Response from Dr. Frascino
Yes, latex, nitrile, polyvinylchloride and polyethylene and polyurethane products would all be effective barriers in preventing transmission of bloodborne pathogens (HIV and hepatitis).
