test negative after 8 weeks
Oct 13, 2006

HI, my question will be brief,

I had a non protected relation with someone, i got tested after 8 weeks, it was negative. Can it be positive after 3 months, since i didnt respect the delay.

Thanks Mel

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hi Mel,

HIV-antibody tests taken prior to three months are not considered to be definitive. Your eight-week negative test is very encouraging, but if you want a conclusive answer you'll need to retest at three months.

Good luck!

Dr. Bob
