Response from Dr. Frascino
Hello, P24 antigen is sometimes used as an alternative to plasma HIV RNA tests to detect acute HIV infection, due to P24's reduced cost. Its sensitivity is less than quantitative HIV RNA tests. It does not depend on the body's ability to produce antibodies, as it is not an antibody-mediated test. Hope that helps clarify the situation for you. Dr. Bob | |||||||||
