Would HAART affect OraQuick Results?
Aug 13, 2006

If someone was on HAART, would that give them a false negative on an OraQuick HIV test?

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hello,

No, HAART does not affect results from HIV-antibody tests, such as OraQuick, ELISA, etc. However, antiretroviral medication (HAART) can decrease plasma HIV viral load to undetectable levels.

The question I have for you is why would someone on potent anti-HIV medications (HAART) even be taking an OraQuick test???

Dr. Bob
