EMERGENCY PEP QUESTION
May 30, 2006

I CLIPPED ONE FINGERNAIL ON AN HIV POS PERSON, ONLY FINGERNAIL CLIPPED, NO SKIN CLIPPED, NO BLOOD. THEN A FEW DAYS LATER I CLIPPED MY FINGERNAILS USING SAME CLIPPER. CAN HIP BE TRANSMITTED THRU FINGERNAIL CLIPPING IF ONLY THE FINGERNAILS ARE CLIPPED. IS THERE BLOOD IN FINGERNAILS. PLEASE RESPOND, TIME IS URGENT.

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hello,

Emergency PEP question??? Time is urgent???? Can "HIP" be transmitted??? HIP?????

Dearie, one thing you are not is "hip." If you were, you wouldn't be worried about such an inane situation.

Your situation is not an emergency, is not urgent and does not even warrant a minimal worry, let alone posting your question in all capital letters. Sweetie, get a grip! If HIV were transmitted that easily, it would have wiped out the entire planet years ago. So stop running around like Henny Penny. The sky is not falling and your HIV risk is nonexistent.

Dr. Bob
