hiv spit assault Apr 15, 2006 I am HIV+, I have been charge with "assult causing bodily harm after alegedly spitting on her arm which had open scatchs. What is the chance of transmition? This charge carries a max sentence of 10 years. The victim and and I are scared senseless. |

 Hello, I'm not sure where you are writing from, but I suggest you get a knowledgeable lawyer to help with your defense. There are a wide variety of bizarre and inconsistent laws on the books related to HIV. Regarding saliva, what we know is that saliva from an HIV-positive person that is not contaminated with blood contains such low titers of HIV that it constitutes a negligible-exposure risk. Certainly saliva contaminated with infected blood could pose a greater transmission risk. Without knowing the specifics about your particular case, it is difficult for me to offer additional specific information.
