|NURSE might INFECTED many med studs - BOB's needed. Over 90 med students' common question from Hamburg.
Mar 13, 2006
Hello every med stud's role model!:)
This is Europe far far away from you, but we hope you remember what it's like here since you're intalian:)
We had this event on our campus with free hiv testing done by nurses from one of hospitals in Hamburg.
The nurses did not change gloves!!! Is it acceptable?????
So our soncern is:
If they had some blood on her gloves can they give someone hiv while folding gauze and putting it to the wound?
Is testing warranted after 3 months?
Why all good soecialists leave Europe and go to US?
We want you back here!:)
| Response from Dr. Frascino
Certainly changing gloves between each test would have been preferable; however, your actual HIV risk from the activity you describe is essentially nonexistent. I do not feel repeat HIV testing is warranted; however, if you're worried, the testing option is always open to you.
As for all good socialists leaving Europe, well, with the way Bush is screwing things up here, we may well be heading back very soon!
Stay well. Study hard. Medicine can be a wonderful career for those who understand it is both an art and a science that must constantly be tempered with compassion.
