Ignorance and HIV (2)
Jan 25, 2006

Thanks for your response on 1/23/06. That is what I was looking for. It is just too bad that so many people don't think it can "happen to them" or it "isn't around here". From what I can tell from the statistics, we probably come into contact with HIV+ people everyday. Even in Ohio. Wouldn't indirect contact be inevitable?

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hi,

Yep. There are about 1,000,000 HIV-infected folks in the USA today. About 25% of them have no idea they have contracted the virus. Better warn your friend I'm going to be in Ohio in a few weeks (Oberlin College). He may want to duck-tape himself into his bomb shelter or stick his head further into the sand (or up his butt), knowing a contaminated person will be entering his state.

Dr. Bob
