| Effect of mistake in PEP dosing. Worth Continuing? Aug 28, 2005 Thanks for answering a previous question. I should make it clear that I am in Northern Thailand and doctor communication is difficult. I was prescribed. 1 combivir. one 400mg indinavir and one 100mg dose of ritonavir ever 12 hours. First four doses were this. Then I read, and recieved your responce, that for 12 hour dosing it is 800mg of indinavir and 100mg of ritonavir along with combivir every 12 hours. I have started this. Question. Even though there seem to be scant stats about PEP. is it worth continuing treatment, or have these mis-prescribed doses, effectivly ruined any chance oif PEP working. Thanks again, you are a lifeline. |

Response from Dr. Frascino
Hello Northern Thai Guy, Yes, the correct dosage is 800 mg of indinavir plus 100 mg ritonavir "boosting" if you are going to use twice-daily indinavir dosing. The boosted indinavir regimen plus Combivir every 12 hours is indeed an effective PEP regimen, although certainly not the most easily tolerated of the PEP regimens available. Even though you were suboptimally dosed with indinavir for the first several days, this would not significantly compromise your chances of PEP being effective. Certainly you have not "ruined any chance of PEP working." I strongly encourage you to complete the full 28-day cycle and then follow the guidelines for post-exposure/post-PEP HIV screening. Your "lifeline" is here whenever you need it, O.K.? Good luck. Dr. Bob | |||
