rim or not to rim

Aug 26, 2005

Dear Gumba,

Since there has never been a case of HIV being transmitted through being on the receiving end (ha ha)of a rimjob, why can it not be considered sfae sex such as grindng ! There has to be something that people can do without getting worried about !

Response from Dr. Frascino

". . . sfae sex such as grindng!"??? Huh?

There are lots of things people can do without getting worried. Is rimming one of them? Well, from an HIV perspective the fact that there have been no recorded cases of getting HIV from rimming or getting rimmed is very encouraging, considering we've been closely monitoring this epidemic for over two decades. However, the possibility of bizarre extenuating circumstances always remains, as does the fact that hepatitis A, intestinal parasites and herpes can all be easily transmitted through a rim job without a barrier.

We all engage in calculated-risk analysis many times a day do we drive above the speed limit? Choose to fly in an airplane? Swim in the ocean? Vote for Dubya? Etc. . . . sex is just one more risk analysis we must all make.

Stay well. Stay informed. Stay safe(r).

Dr. Bob
