| still worried with symptoms Jul 18, 2005 Hi Dr Bob, Last October I gave unprotected oral sex-there was no ejaculation in the mouth. Within a few days I started feeling fatigued and run down, but I never had a fever or major flu symptoms. Now, besides constant fatigue, I frequently get sores on the inside of my lips. Most are small blood blisters that I can actually pop and blood comes out. Some are just tiny cuts. I've also noticed a few tiny reddish-brown spots on my legs and arms. In researching, I keep coming back to HIV symptoms - fatigue, mouth sores, skin lesions, swollen glands. I tested negative/non-reactive at 9 weeks, 7 3/4 months and 8 1/2 months, but I'm still worried. What should I do next? I know you say symptoms don't equal disease, but I feel like a walking disease factory. I don't even kiss my favorite grandmother good-bye anymore, I just shake her hand (just kidding). Any advice? |

Response from Dr. Frascino
Hello, OK, so you had unprotected receptive oral sex but no high-protein snack. Then you developed some symptoms fatigue, mouth sores, spots and swollen glands. Next, you tested negative at 9 weeks, 7 months and 8.5 months. And you want advice on what you should do next? OK. 1. Stop testing. 2. Realize you are HIV negative. 3. Realize symptoms do not equal HIV disease. 4. See your general medical doctor if you remain concerned about ongoing symptoms. And as for what the cause may be, one thing is for certain: it's not HIV. 5. Kiss Granny. Stay safe. Stay well. Dr. Bob | |||||||||
