Negative 20 minute Test - Should I still worry?

Jul 4, 2005

My estranged wife of 7 years (since intimacy) was recently diagnosed HIV positive and symptomatic. I've been feeling malaise for maybe 10 years. I was tested at health dept. with 20 minute test the same day she was diagnosed, of which resultts were HIV negative. Should I be worrying still or just consider the test reliable enough?

Response from Dr. Frascino

Negative FDA-approved rapid HIV tests performed outside of the window period are regarded as definitive. Therefore, your test is indeed conclusive, and I see no cause for concern.

Positive rapid tests, on the other hand, need confirmation by standard serology before they are regarded as definitively positive.

Hope that helps clarify things for you.

Dr. Bob

I thought there was a condom...... much reason for concern?
Desperate for advise!!!
