could a test be done after 3 weeks of exposure?

Jul 3, 2005

hi... first i would like to ask about the window period... some people say that you can have an ellisa test after 3weeks of exposure .. and the other questoin is .. does heroin affect an hiv test result .. thanx doc.. ur the man .. :)

Response from Dr. Frascino

You can have an ELISA test at three weeks or anytime you wish. The real question is whether it would mean anything. The current guidelines indicate that ELISA tests taken prior to three months are not considered to be conclusive. Consequently, for a definitive result, wait three month or more from your last potential exposure to get HIV tested, OK?

Heroin does not affect HIV antibody production, the duration of the window period or HIV test results.

Finally, I'm a man, but doubt I'm the man.

Good luck with your test.
