Panicky thoughts

Jun 12, 2005

Salut Rob,

This is the last time iam posing a question to you . Iam getting all suicidal thoughts ,please answer my question. Donation is on its way. My story goes like this , I had a protected sex on Feb 13th .. dont know the status of woman.. and am not sure whether condom break or not . But after 1 month i developed GERD(Gastro esophegal Reflux Disease) for which i took 1 month medication.Even then its occuring again and again.

Recently i saw some information on the website ,which goes like this "Esophagitis can also be caused by an infection that can develop in individuals with weakened immune systems, such as caused by HIV or certain medications such as corticosteroids. The infection can be caused by viruses, including herpes and cytomegalovirus, and fungi or yeast, especially Candida infections"

Does this really relate to HIV, because when i got tested after 8 weeks exposure , ,i was safe...Please help Dr Rob ...thanks for the wonderful work. Donation is on your way.

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hello Panicky Thoughts,

GERD is a very common ailment and not specifically linked to HIV/AIDS. An eight-week negative HIV test is encouraging, but not conclusive. Tests taken prior to three months are not considered definitive. "Protected sex" should indeed be "protected" if the latex condom was used properly and did not fail. Consequently, I agree your problem is one of "panicky thoughts," not HIV! If you are having suicidal thoughts, you need to see a psychiatrist without delay.

Thank you for your donation! I do hope your irrational fears will soon be just a bad memory.

Dr. Bob
