Does HIV drugs make me feel better
May 8, 2005
Hi doctor, I have a very simple question. I am HIV- but my immune system is very weak. I get ill very easiliy. Does HIV drugs make my immune sstem better. Is it also effective on HIV- people. Is my question stupid? thanks a fan of you
Response from Dr. Frascino
Anti-HIV drugs do not help people who do not have HIV disease. The drugs work by decreasing the replication of HIV (virus). If you are not infected with the virus, the anti-virus drugs will not help. In fact, they have the capacity to cause significant toxicity and side effects.
If your immune system is weak, you should see an immunologist for an evaluation. Chances are your immune system is not your real problem!
