| Can you get HIV from a carrier? Aug 8, 2004 Can you get HIV from a carrier? My boyfriend had unprotected sex with a girl who is a carrier of AIDS and then had sex with my a few days later, still unprotected. A few weeks later, I got swollen lymph nodes in my groin area. It has been 6 months now. Is there a chance I could have been infected? |

Response from Dr. Frascino
Hello, There is no such thing as an HIV carrier. You either have the virus or you don't. If you have the virus, you are HIV positive. If you are HIV positive, you have the capacity to transmit HIV, if prevention measures are not followed. If you've had unprotected sex, you've placed yourself at risk for STDs, including HIV. HIV testing should be performed three months or more after your last potential exposure. I can't make it any more straight forward than that. Any questions? Good luck. Dr. Bob | |||||||||
