c-reactive protein test
Mar 6, 2004

Dr. Frascino,

I have a question about HIV and a test for c-reactive protein. My doctor told me that a test for c-reactive protein will show if someone has AIDS. Is this also true for HIV infection?

thanks

Response from Dr. Frascino

Hi,

Two possibilities here:

1. You misunderstood what your doctor said.

2. You need a new doctor.

No, C-reactive protein is not a test for HIV/AIDS. Only an HIV-specific test can diagnose HIV/AIDS.
