A QUESTION FROM INDIA,PLEASE HELP SIR!!
Mar 3, 2004

HI

Mr. calvin regrads from india.my question is that on dec 13 and dec 14 i had protected sex with a female used condoms, not one but two,now on both ocassions when i withdrew my penis the condoms{double bagging} were intact, infact i removed them and besides i saw my semen in it.did i put my self at risk of hiv/std?does it suggest you in anyways that the condom broke/slipped? iam worried causei had a sore neck 5 weeks post exposure, had a ear infection at 10 weeks and had severe cold at 7.5 weeks,is this ARS?

i plan to test at 83 days,1 day short of 12 weeks test since my 12 week befalls on sunday, would it give me a conclusive result.

take care and god bless

stay well

rahul from india.

Response from Mr. Spinks

Hey Rahul,

I am glad that you are using condoms, but double bagging can defeat your purpose. Using two condoms at once can cause breakage due to the friction between the latex layers. Using one latex condom at a time is sufficient for all your sexual activities.

Now that we got that out of the way, let's focus on your risk. You stated that the condoms were intact, meaning they weren't tore and they remained on your penis until you withdrew from the vagina. Condoms have been proven to greatly reduce your risk for HIV Infection. So it appears that your risk for HIV infection was low for your December activities. Unfortunately, a latex condom isn't always a protective barrier against other sexually transmitted diseases (STD's); i.e. Warts and Herpes.

So let's recap. Since it appears that the condom didn't break, the chances the sore neck and other illnesses that you unfortunately suffered are low to be related to ARS. But if it takes a HIV test to relieve your mind, I say go for it. I think the 83rd day you plan on getting tested will be conclusive for your December activities. Keep on being safe and good luck!!
