are men getting hiv from women in america?
Sep 5, 2003
hi dr. frascino
are men really getting infected with hiv from having sex with women in this country? i have still never met a poz guy who wasn't either a druggie or had an obvious femininity suggesting homosexual history. and i work with poz people everyday (i'm a nurse for an infectious disease specialist who tells me that hetero men who don't use needles needn't worry about hiv infection).
Response from Dr. Frascino
"An obvious femininity suggesting homosexual history???" and you say you're a nurse? Oh my, my, my . . . . Let me guess. You must come from one of those square states in the Middle Western part of the USA, right? And you work for an infectious diseases specialist who told you that "hetero men who don't use needles needn't worry about HIV infection???" Where did he get his medical degree? Perhaps second-hand on EBay?
First off, most gay men are not obviously feminine. (Could it be this is why you don't recognize them?) Next, your boss is demonstrating truly remarkable ignorance of monumental proportions. Please send him back to medical school immediately. Actually, make that pre-med, because I'm convinced he must be such an idiot that no medical school would ever accept him.
To answer your question, HIV doesn't care what country you live in. Yes, men really are getting infected with HIV from having sex with women in this country just as in every other country in the world. It's a virus!! There are 45 million people currently infected worldwide. And with the help of misinformation like that being spread by your boss, the estimates of 100 million infected by 2010 may unfortunately become a reality. Let's hope your doctor-boss decides to retire soon before he destroys someone's life with misinformation.
And please note: A number of AIDS experts on this website, including my lover Dr. Steve Natterstad (expert in The Body's Tratamientos Forum) and I are gay, and do not have "an obvious femininity."
