| HGV possible theraputic cure? Apr 29, 2003 Hi Dr. Bob, Got a question for ya. Does the HGV virus ability to block HIV entry into the CCR5 receptor look like a promising lead? Is CCR5 really an evoluntiary dead ender? Also, will HGV infection trials ever occur? Finding this stuff incredibly interesting, Macjen |

Response from Dr. Frascino
Hi Macjen, Well, we are still learning about HGV effect on HIV. Even if it does block CCR5, remember HIV can still get in via CXCR4 receptors, depending on the HIV strain. HGV clinical trials? Well, perhaps. But it would be better to learn how it does what it does and develop treatment modalities based on that mechanism. Chronic persistent infection with HGV does appear to give some survival advantage as far as HIV is concerned. Well keep you posted as this story unfolds. Stay tuned for the next exciting chapter . . . . Dr. Bob | |||||||||
