finger with a cut to vagina
Feb 18, 2003

hello dr. i have a very important question. after i had sex with my partner(i am a male and she is a female) i noticed that i had a cut in my index finger. i didn't realize it until after we were finished. i fingered her vagina while we had sex. the cut was like a paper cut with maybe dried blood. she has no diseases and i dont either. am i or her at risk of anything? please help me. thank you so much dr.

Response from Mr. Kull

There is no evidence to support transmission of HIV through finger contact with genitals. It is possible that other sexually transmitted infections could be transmitted through finger contact, but it is unlikely.

You should only be concerned about sexually transmitted infections (including HIV) if you have anal, vaginal, or oral sex with an infected person.
